Typically, a heartbeat detection is used to define the BOOL, the HMI sets this point at a fixed frequency and the PLC resets when it receives a signal that the point is on. If no signal is received for that point to turn on for a period of time, e.g. 5s, the communication is considered broken. The PLC’s memory clock byte is passed to the touch panel interface, which uses a script to assign the value of this byte to an address in another PLC, which then determines whether the two scan cycles of the returned byte are the same.
